In May of 1962, Orem City agreed to purchase two Biersach & Niedermeyer BN443 sirens. These sirens were both purchased and installed at the cost of $5,424 ($56,683 in 2024), and installed at Westmore Elementary (1150 S. Main) and Sharon Elementary (475 N. 400 E). These were their first sirens since the early 40's, when they experimented with a system of steam whistles and smaller sirens. They ran for civil defense drills and tests, before being deactivated after state civil defense programs were dissolved. The siren at Sharon Elementary has been gone since at least the early 2000s, while the siren at Westmore was removed after 2012 when the schoolyard was renovated. There are unconfirmed rumors of this siren still existing, originating from a local Facebook group.
